Headaches

Headaches are a common problem in our busy lives and one of the most frequent reasons for taking non-prescription medicines. They have a variety of underlying causes and chiropractic can be an effective way of dealing with them.

The headaches most frequently treated by chiropractors are known as cervinogenic headaches. These typically have their origins within neck problems. Symptoms include pain that seems to focus around the forehead, your temple, your ears, and your eyes.

Where this pain is indeed being caused neck issues, chiropractic treatment is able to help the direct cause of the headache rather than simply medicating it with pain-killers.

The first stage in treating cervinogenic headaches is to undergo a thorough examination, and possibly an x-ray to establish the exact condition of the vertebrae in your neck. We need to know exactly where your pain is being referred from. Once we know this, we can then review elements such as posture to establish if your headache is being worsened through your daily activities.

Depending on your diagnosis, possible treatment options could include:

  • Trigger-point massage
  • Soft tissue therapy
  • Recommendations for a specific sleep pillow
  • Posture assessment
  • Stress management

All of these treatments can produce effective and drug-free relief for persistent headaches.
