The snow has gone and spring is bursting out all over Glastonbury. It’s a wonderful time to get outside, to take a walk, and to know that as you do so you’ll be taking exercise that is chiropractor recommended!
Walking is a form of exercise that is known as ‘low-impact’. That means that while we gain numerous health benefits, it doesn’t stress our limbs in the same way that high-impact activities can do. This doesn’t mean that walking is a soft-option though! As you pound out the miles you’re making your bones work and over time that strengthens them.
This is especially good news for conditions such as osteoporosis.
Walking is also excellent for helping with stress. Make your walking a conscious activity. Take note of the things around you, the trees that are coming into bud and the birds and animals that are returning to our local environment. Focus on your breathing. Breathe deeply as you walk and involve your whole body in your walking rhythm.
The Parks and Recreation Department of Glastonbury Town Council often carry details of interesting walks that you can take.
One of our favourite walking areas is Cotton Hollow. Share your favorite walk in the comments box. We’d love to hear from you!
