Typical signs of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome can include numbness, tingling, or even burning in one or both of your hands. The real give-away sign is when these unpleasant sensations are felt in the thumb, index, and middle fingers, but only felt along half of the ring-finger and not at all in the little finger.
Sufferers can become aware of this discomfort while performing specific tasks. Typical examples might be while holding a book or driving a car. Tasks that require the repeated grasping of objects can also become uncomfortable, and difficulty in carrying bags is a frequent complaint. Symptoms are frequently felt first thing in the morning and last thing at night.
Some medical and inflammatory conditions are also believed to be contributory factors.
In the early stages of Carpal Tunnel, this discomfort can be relieved by the simple method of just shaking the hand. As the condition progresses however, this approach becomes less and less effective.
In some cases of the condition, a sensation of pins and needles can extend as far as the forearm.
