Sciatic pain is horrible – no question about it. What is it, and how can chiropractic help?
Sciatica is incredibly common and is one of the most frequent conditions that patients seek help for. If you suffer from the condition then you’ll be all too familiar with the unpleasant burning, cramping sensations that fire down the backs of your legs.
What is sciatica, and how can we help you to keep it at bay?
What is sciatica?
Your sciatic nerve starts out from you lower back and runs straight down the back of your leg until it reaches your knee. From there it branches out into several different nerves as it continues its journey towards your foot. Ordinarily it’s perfectly well behaved, but sometimes things can go wrong if your spine isn’t moving as nature intended.
That lack of movement irritates the sciatic nerve as it starts out on its journey. This irritation can be a major cause of the burning stabbing pain of sciatica.
Treatment of sciatica
The first thing that we’ll look for is any evidence that your sciatic nerve is being compressed.
Chiropractic manipulation can get your spine back into a state of natural healthy movement. In the vast majority of cases patients find that their sciatic pain is substantially relieved, and all without resorting to artificial drug-based painkillers.
To maintain the effect, we’ll then suggest appropriate stretching exercises that help to ensure the pain doesn’t return and that your spine remains healthy.
Sciatica is a pain, but it doesn’t need to be a lasting one.
If you find yourself experiencing those telltale burning stabbing grabbing sensations down the back of the legs, Glastonbury Chiropractic Health Center will soon have you back on the path to relief.
